Ego vs Heart
What is the ego good for?
So before we get into why we have an ego, let’s take a look at exactly what is the ego? According to the online Cambridge Dictionary: The ego is “your idea or opinion of yourself, especially your feeling of your own importance and ability” also in accordance “specialized psychology, psychoanalysis, the part of a person’s mind that tries to match the hidden desires (=wishes) of the id (=part of the unconscious mind) with the demands of the real world.”
So in my words our ego is that little voice within our mind that basically tells us what to do, our voice of reasoning. The ego will either criticize, judge or boost your illusion of who you are or who you could be or who you wish to be. The ego is created out of the societal and familial conditioning we endure as children to adulthood of what stands for truth, justice and right, wrong and with this, the ego can also create false illusions of superiority or simply a separation from the world and the universe through the inflated belief of self and that your needs wants and belief systems mean more than the consciousness sitting next to you and so forth. So you see when you feed the ego too much you empower this part of reasoning within you. The ego wants to consistently protect us from uncomfortable feelings, and by not allowing yourself to feel uncomfortable every now and then, you are feeding this reasoning system, you empower the ego and you yourself thus begins to live in fear. Fear of being hurt, the ego creates division and division creates a limitation and limitations creates finite. Finite means the supply has a point of end or self has limits. What are limitations; limitations are a set boundary for something that is presented in scarcity, a lack of so to say, and what exactly is this lack of? Well A lack of Love, so in other words our egos do not allow us to fully love. As the Ego sets limitations on the supply of love, so this is why we are usually told to kill the ego.
When I see someone who is speaking through their ego or who is just flat out egotistical I do not condemn them for having too big of an ego, I simply offer them patience and try to educate their ignorance /arrogance, because I know where the ego stems from. The ego creates many barriers and most boil down to fear, fear of not being good enough, fear of not living up to a standard or expectation, or constantly trying to
achieve that high level of standard to feel validation from yourself your family friends and society. So with this concept I understand how ego can be good as it helps to boost that self-esteem... Sometimes at the cost of others too, this is what we are taught through our ego.
I have seen this time and time again, trying to be the best and feed that ego so we step on others to win, in reality how does this really allow us to win? We win by satisfying that fear within ego, satisfying that doubt given from ego, and feeding ego as ego wants to be fed at any means, tis the game when scarcity is present... but the universe is infinite so how can we be driven by a source that is finite called the ego? So really how is this truly winning, when you are now limiting yourself of the infinite possibilities the universe has to offer? By allowing your ego to defend your self- esteem by judging another negatively has now actually stopped you from opening a new door or venturing another path or simply seeing the world through another’s eyes, another perspective. When you are driven to do things by your self or for yourself with only you in mind and only the benefit for you that's ego driven, judging others, that is an ego trap. An ego trap is when we believe we are doing the right thing in a sense because it is temporarily making us feel good at the time, but do not realize it is the ego that is the hidden force behind this drive.
Anything pertaining to closing yourself off to be safe is the ego, any behavior or action that is allowing yourself to free fall in a sense and accept things or people as they are and still give and receive love is feeding the soul; the heart. When you are being conscientious and thinking of the benefit for all as a whole you are feeding the soul not ego, be loving of others and just knowing by doing that your loving yourself. Just think, when you love others you feel good, when you do stuff for others you feel good, that's living through your heart center, that is feeding your soul not your ego, and that also is called following your heart. So this always had me wondering still why do we need the ego, if the ego puts up those barriers and doesn't allow us to be humble enough to be of service to others, and the ego stops us from loving and the ego protects us in a very backwards way. You see with our heart center we have our intuition that is already like our antenna for danger, our extra sense to pick up on when to proceed with caution and even allows us to make decisions of when to protect ourselves. If we have this alarm system within us already why would we need the alarm system of the ego?
Well this led me to do more research, think, ask, listen and find my why? Then I realized, well as human beings we are all born with an innate ability to heal, so it makes sense that this must influence us in some way and could very well be one of our many purposes here; to use this innate ability to heal. We are all healers in a sense, if you can heal yourself from a cut or cold you are a healer to be more specific, if you have an immune system, well congratulations you are a healer! However I am in no way saying anyone can have the occupation or soul mission of a healer, as I’m sure you have noticed ‘healers’ seem to posses a more empowered version of self healing. Also they are very much naturally equipped to share their gift to help others to heal and help empower the ‘others’ own ability of healing, but this is a whole other story on it's own. So I then realized as natural healers we are all made to live within this heart center. Your heart center is your place of healing, your heart Chakra your energy center of love; giving and receiving. A natural healer is driven to search, to heal and help everywhere else and everybody else, which causes them to completely forget about themselves, this too can happen to anyone of you, as I have mentioned we are all healers in a sense.
When you are feeding the soul (using your abilities to the fullest) you are feeding your heart with love and you feel amazing. So you see how we can too forget to take care of ourselves when necessary. It is highly important to make sure to be self aware, as healers living In the heart center you are completely humbled, your living through your heart so that means your heart is your soul conductor not your mind/your ego, without track a healer can deplete their healing center as mentioned.
This led me to another thought, when you are living in that heart center, your healing center, and are speaking from the heart, speaking in truths, speaking in your justice, speaking with love, when you are participating in such behaviour and thought processes, there is no problems, everything is all good, in perfect harmony. I must admit this is a peaceful thought, then again if everything was always just “all good” then there would be no change in a sense, things would stay stasis, there is no room for growth. Things just stay the same, you are stuck on one frequency, you become stasis. To be Stasis means you are slowing down, your growth is staying the same, you have found equilibrium, so your energy is still flowing but you yourself have not allowed yourself to transcend and move forward to your next level. Also keep in mind too much of one thing or staying in the same spot does become stagnant and this leads to even more imbalance. So only feeding that heart center can be detrimental to our health and well being too. When we have hushed our ego too much and killed it so to say, there is still no balance. A perfect example of when you are feeding one side too much and forgetting the other, beside being egotistical; Healer’s disease. A healer suffering from healer’s disease, needs to feel validation through the feedback of their healing, and they begin to deplete their own energy in search for the validation and eventually gets sick. This too can be viewed as an ego trap or an over fed heart but I am in no way here to talk about this disease in particular, more to use as an example of what happens when you don't have a healthy balance of ego and heart. Think of it this way, your ego is your solar plexus. Your solar plexus is your power center, your vitality, your self worth and motivation and just above this energy center is your heart chakra your heart center so when you are learning to honor both your heart and your ego you are automatically connecting your heart and ego and you are now feeding them 50-50 promoting harmony, equilibrium and most importantly growth. You can have a healthy ego, and therefore cannot kill the ego because we still need the ego. When you are a light worker ( a person who bring light and love to this world) you must understand that; yes, you do honor the light, but in order to fully honor the light you need to honor the dark. Just as if you didn't know sadness how can you ever know happiness and if you didn’t know happiness how can you ever know when you are sad, those are natural human emotions to be happy or to be sad...
So the ego must be apart of this too, we cannot just kill it off right? Everything on this earth plane there needs to be balance, like day to night, good to bad, light to dark, positive to negative, heart center to ego. So this now brings me back to the question that has boggled me for years... Why do we have an ego if it causes all this turmoil and separation within?
Well, it is there to remind us to look within, and as human beings we are healers, we are all born healers and need that ego as much as we need that heart center, so it is not so much to kill the ego but to hush the ego and learn to differentiate between the two. (Ego vs Heart) Learn to use that discernment but to understand what that ego is there for, to remind us when to look at ourselves and worry about ourselves.
After years of wondering what the ego is good for... The ego is good for reminding you to look at you, because naturally as healers we’re always trying to heal everything else around us that is out of balance. Remember though, how can we truly heal anything if we ourselves are not healed. So what the ego does for us, is it reminds us to look within, it calls for us like “ hey what about me me me!” so that's why we need that ego because without the ego we wouldn't stop to look at ourselves. We would continue doing the same thing until someone else points out; we are running ourselves thin, our energy on empty, or simply we make ourselves sick. Instead of us being those innovators, we then are simply relying on the world, others and our poor health habits, that leads to bigger problems and an imbalance within ourselves or simply an ego trap.
How can you find that creativity without looking within and recharging, how do you find a new resolution for something, a new perspective? You need to be looking within to reanalyze. You cannot look within when you’re only looking out. So the healthy ego gives us that reminder to not forget to look within, so this what our ego is good for, this is why we have the ego and this is why we need the ego as much as we need the heart center... Not to protect us, not to boost our self esteem, not to enforce our belief systems wants and needs, and most definitely not to be in the driver seat of life making decisions to get ahead, but to be a simple reminder to take care of yourself. Feed that healthy part of the ego, and allow the old and un serving ways of the ego to die for you. You will see the doors of the universe begin opening up and unlocking new found opportunity, potential and the supply and power of infinite real love. I intend for my words to have inspired you and your new healthy relationship with your ego and heart. Continue spreading and sharing your amazing energies with the world and universe, continue living through that beautiful blissful all encompassing heart center and allow room for the humble ego to remind you of when to take self care. With much care and Blessings.
